The largest of any cat, and amongst the largest of Asia's land predators. Historically, tigers had a range This is an Amur, or Siberian Tiger - a race of tiger that lives in East China. Today, wild tiger populations are rather fragmented, with about 3,900 in the wild. It is believed that all tigers belong to two different subspecies - those of the continent and those of the islands, particularly Sumatra. Traditionally, other tiger populations, such as the Amur Tiger and some now extinct populations, like the Java Tiger, were too classed as subspecies up till 2017.
